Before the brush meets the canvas, there is music.
A classical pianist and lifelong educator, Riaan finds a natural connection between musical composition and abstract painting. His work moves between bold gestures, considered structure and richly layered colour.
His studies of classical proportion sit alongside an instinctive response to nature. Years of teaching art and music have given way to a life spent painting, exploring and sharing his work.
Close to three decades leading Art and Culture with Music at North West University, Potchefstroom.
EXCHANGE
Lectures at the University of Edinburgh. Fine arts studies in Salzburg. Work alongside Dirk Meerkotter at the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris, in 1993.
